Apply today to join our team! Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Assistant Finance Director, the Account Clerk II is responsible for accepting and processing monies which are submitted to the City in payment of utility, EMS, or other fees and charges.
The Account Clerk II allocates money collected to the proper accounts, posts receipts in the computer, and balances the accounts at the end of each day.
The employee in this position is responsible for working with citizens on bill payments and customer invoicing.
While assignments follow prescribed policies and procedures, the Account Clerk II must use tact and discretion when dealing with the public.
Essential Functions: Records and posts daily receipts and disbursements for the City.
Balances daily cash statement.
Maintains daily cash balance reports and generates monthly summary detail; Responsible for purchase order generation in accounting system; Enters purchase order requisitions into accounting system to encumber funds; Process mail and coordinates invoice delivery to all departments; Prepares invoices and analyzes accounts receivables for departments; Processes cash receipts on customer accounts; Handles ordering of office supplies; Scanning documents into LaserFiche program from previous years when time is allotted; Cross train in Utility Billing department to assist as back-up clerk when necessary; Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and documents business transactions; Responsible for tracking grant funds received.
Marginal Functions: Prepares daily bank deposits; Prepares and enters accounts payable invoices into system; Assists other Account Clerks; Other duties as deemed necessary or as required Position Requirements: Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Classwork in bookkeeping or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
Experience: One to two years of experience in bookkeeping and clerical work required.
Skills: Mathematical aptitude and knowledge of entry level bookkeeping procedures.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.
The ability to operate a calculator, computer terminal, typewriter, and other related office equipment.
Problem Solving: Frequent problem solving and judgment regarding time management and deadlines exists in this position.
Decision Making: Decision making exists pertaining to following prescribed policies and procedures.
The incumbent must be able to incorporate financial considerations in decision making process.
Accountability: Employee is responsible for daily receipts collected.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Personal Relations: Continual contact with other city departments and some contact with the public.
Working Conditions: Typical clerical workspace or office; No adverse working conditions exist in this position.
Physical Requirements: The Account Clerk II’s physical job demands include Occasional Bend/Crouch; Occasional Carry of <5 lbs.
